LAS VEGAS — Several Las Vegas Raiders players attended a charity event held by teammate Darren Waller that might have violated league rules for the coronavirus pandemic.

The Darren Waller Foundation held a fundraising event at a country club just outside Las Vegas on Monday to help young people overcome drug and alcohol addiction.

Players were seen on video without masks during the indoor event while talking and mingling with guests, who also weren’t wearing masks.

Among the players in attendance were quarterbacks Derek Carr and Nathan Peterman, tight ends Jason Witten and Foster Moreau, and Waller.

Rules from the NFL and NFLPA limit what players are allowed to do away from the facility this season to try to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Among the banned activities are music concerts or entertainment events, house gatherings of more than 15 people without everyone wearing masks or attending an indoor night club with more than 10 people in the club.

The Raiders, the NFL and a representative from Waller’s foundation didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The event came the night before the NFL announced that the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings had to suspend in-person activities because three Titans players and five personnel tested positive for the coronavirus following a game between the teams on Sunday.

This is the latest possible infraction of the COVID-19 protocols by the Raiders early this season. A person familiar with the punishments said coach Jon Gruden was fined $100,000 and the team fined $250,000 because he failed to wear his mask properly on the sideline during a Week 2 game against the New Orleans Saints.

The team is also being investigated for allowing an unauthorized team employee in the locker room after the Saints game.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the league hadn’t made any announcement.

Gruden also said after the Saints game that he had the coronavirus in July and stressed that the team is taking it seriously.

It's the defending Super Bowl champions against a team that's won 14 straight regular-season games.

Or, maybe it's a preview of the AFC title game - a matchup many expected to see last January. Most of all, the intrigue surrounding Monday night's game between the Kansas City Chiefs (2-0) and Baltimore Ravens (2-0) is directed at the quarterbacks: 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and 2019 MVP Lamar Jackson.

''When those two quarterbacks are on the field, it's magic on both sides,'' Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey said. ''I see every week what Lamar can do, and I always see some highlight or something of what Mahomes can do. So, when you have two superstar quarterbacks like that, it's going to be a fun game.''

Mahomes last season led the Chiefs to their first NFL championship since 1970 and was the Super Bowl MVP. Jackson guided the Ravens to a 14-2 regular-season record, set the league mark for yards rushing by a quarterback and directed the most prolific running attack in NFL history. Baltimore closed the regular season with 12 straight wins to earn the top seed in the AFC, but bowed out with an upset loss at home to Tennessee.

That helped Mahomes and the Chiefs to go the distance, and they'll be bringing an 11-game winning streak into Monday night's showdown.

Jackson is 21-3 as a starter during the regular season, with two of those losses coming against Kansas City and Mahomes in 2018 (27-24 in overtime) and 2019 (33-28). But, even though this is the first game in NFL history featuring two MVPs under the age of 26, Jackson waved off the notion that this is solely about him versus Mahomes.

''I don't have to focus on Mahomes. I've got to focus on their defense, I've got to focus on scoring, I've got to focus on my job,'' Jackson insisted. ''My defense has to worry about him.''

Oh, there's plenty of reason for the Baltimore defense to be concerned, even though the unit has been exceptional thus far in lopsided wins over Cleveland and Houston. Mahomes threw for 377 yards and two TDs in that 2018 game, and last year pierced the Ravens for 374 yards and three scores.

''He has all these tools, and he has so much talent around him,'' Humphrey said. ''With Mahomes, as good as he is in the pocket, he's just as good - probably better - outside the pocket, which is the craziest thing about his game. So, preparing for him, it's really tough.''

GETTING THEIR KICKS

Not only does this game feature two of the league's best quarterbacks, but two of the finest kickers will be ready to roll if a late field-goal try is required for the win.

Kansas City's Harrison Butker banged home two field goals of 58 yards last week in an overtime win over the Chargers. He's been perfect so far this season, led the league in scoring last year and has amassed 445 points in his career, most ever by a kicker after 47 games.

Justin Tucker, meanwhile, is the most accurate kicker in NFL history (90.9% on field goals). He's never missed from inside 29 yards, is 226 for 237 from inside 49 yards and has clicked on 71% of his tries from at least 50 yards.

NO HOME CROWD

The Ravens have been waiting since 2017 to have a Monday night game at home, and now that they got one, they'll be forced to play without the backing of their fans. Attendance will be zero because of the pandemic.

So, the Ravens won't enjoy the advantage the Chiefs had while playing at home against Baltimore in each of the past two seasons. This will be the third straight game for the Ravens without fans in the stadium.

''Sometimes you say, `We'll play them anywhere. We'll play them in a parking lot. We'll play them anywhere. No fans, we don't care,''' coach John Harbaugh said. ''Well, here we are. We're playing basically in a parking lot right now - with no fans.''

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said, ''It's weird. I've been doing this a couple weeks now and you get out there and it seems like you can hear every penny drop.''

LOOK AND SEE

One of the problems the Kansas City offense has faced through the first two games of the season has been defenses that have showed completely different looks from the past. Teams that have run man coverage have gone to zones, and the blitz looks that Houston and Los Angeles have used in the past have been replaced - all in an effort to confuse Mahomes.

Expect the Ravens to do the same thing given how much they've played each other the past few years.

''It's going to be all about execution,'' Mahomes said. ''When you play a defense like this that's very mobile, multiple, you have to be ready to go and have answers for everything. Whenever they give us an un-scouted look, try to have a positive game, go to the sideline and try to figure it out.''

FUNDAMENTALS

Without much offseason or preseason games, and limited hitting to practice it, tackling has been a problem for the Chiefs this season. They know how important it will be against the mobile Jackson and the Ravens' productive ground game.

''Coach Reid did an unbelievable job in camp trying to make things normal,'' defensive tackle Chris Jones said, ''but we just have to stay on that. We missed a lot of tackles last week and that's a big focus this week, wrap up and finish plays.''

New on SI: Panthers-Chargers Preview

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) Justin Herbert has had an entire week instead of just a couple minutes to prepare for his second NFL start.

The Los Angeles Chargers rookie will be under center on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers after finding out less than an hour before kickoff that he was playing last week. Herbert got his first professional snaps when Tyrod Taylor couldn't play due to complications from an injection for a rib injury.

Taylor is out indefinitely after it was revealed that the doctor who gave the injection punctured a lung. The 10-year veteran went to the hospital last Sunday after having breathing problems before being released. Taylor has been at the team's complex this week helping to mentor Herbert, and the NFL Players Association has opened an investigation into what occurred.

The Chargers (1-1) are not alone when it comes to missing one of their key offensive players. The winless Panthers are missing All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey due to a high ankle sprain.

Despite not getting many snaps with the first team, Herbert was 22 of 33 for 311 yards and responsible for both Chargers touchdowns (one passing, one rushing). His only mistake was throwing into double coverage for an interception late in the third quarter, which led to the Chiefs' tying touchdown.

Lynn said the most important thing this week during practices was to run Herbert through situations he hasn't faced. Offensive coordinator Shane Steichen is looking forward to seeing how much progress Herbert can make in this start.

''He can move the pocket, get out and extend plays, but also his ability to stand in the pocket and make some big time throws like he did on Sunday. We look forward to seeing him do that,'' Steichen said of this year's sixth overall pick in the draft.

The Chargers should have the same game plan as the first two weeks, which means a heavy dose of the run. Los Angeles leads the league with 85 rushing attempts, and running backs Austin Ekeler and Joshua Kelley each went over 100 scrimmage yards last week.

The Panthers will be looking to generate some sort of a pass rush although they could be without defensive tackle Kawann Short (foot) once again. They have been unable to do that against the Buccaneers and the Raiders, managing one quarterback hit and no sacks.

Carolina's defense has allowed six rushing scores already after surrendering a league-high 32 last season.

''We will have to home in on the specific things he did. But they have their offense and it has a lot of things that you see in college football - speed sweeps, zone reads , speed options - things that we saw in the Big 12. Things we saw on Saturday,'' Rhule said of Herbert. ''I think it is an offense that he is very comfortable with from his time at Oregon''

Carolina is still looking for its first win for Rhule, who joined the team from Baylor this offseason. Overall the Panthers have lost 10 straight games dating back to last season.

BIG SHOES TO FILL

Mike Davis will get the start at running back with McCaffrey missing at least the next three weeks. Davis had eight catches for 74 yards in last Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay, but no carries. The Chargers are familiar with Davis from two years ago, when he ran for 74 yards while playing for Seattle.

Rhule said Reggie Bonnafon and Trenton Cannon could also see some carries.

GETTING PRESSURE

Los Angeles has only four sacks but is second in the league with 19 quarterback pressures. Gus Bradley's defense was able to keep Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes out of rhythm last week until the fourth quarter, when the Super Bowl MVP began checking down more, along with running for yardage.

Joey Bosa has two sacks, but defensive tackles Linval Joseph and Jerry Tillery have also played well.

Teddy Bridgewater threw for a career-high 367 yards last week. He also turned over the ball three times (two interceptions, one fumble).

''Going into this game you want to know where Bosa and Melvin Ingram are at at all times so we can scheme them up and play pitch and catch with the wideouts or have open run lanes,'' he said.

ANDERSON WATCH

Panthers wide receiver Robby Anderson has made an immediate impact since signing as a free agent from the New York Jets. He already has two 100-yard receiving games, including a 75 yard touchdown catch in the season opener against the Raiders. Anderson hauled in eight of nine passes thrown his way last week and appears to have good chemistry with Bridgewater. Anderson is proving he's more than just a deep threat.

HELLO AGAIN

Chargers right guard Trai Turner and Panthers left tackle Russell Okung will face their former teams after an offseason trade. Turner spent his first six seasons in Carolina and Okung was with Los Angeles for three years.

Okung is not the only former Chargers lineman for this matchup. Offensive line coach Pat Meyer joined the Panthers' staff and guard Michael Schofield signed during the offseason after both were in LA for three years.

Okung did not practice on Thursday due to a groin injury. Trent Scott -- who was with the Chargers during training camp before being released -- would be an option if he doesn't play.

KEEP AN EYE ON

The Chargers' Hunter Henry, who is one of six tight ends in the league with 10 or more receptions. He is second among tight ends with 156 yards and is averaging 14.2 yards per reception.

DENVER (AP) After watching Von Miller and Bradley Chubb team up for 24 1/2 sacks in Denver in 2018, Shaq Barrett didn't want to be a backup anymore and took his talents to Tampa.

When he returns with the Buccaneers (1-1) Sunday to face the Broncos (0-2) he'll saunter into Empower Field as the NFL's defending sacks champion.

And although he's still searching for his first sack of 2020, he'll bring with him zero regrets.

''I just want to show them that they did have a chance to have me and they let me go,'' Barrett said. ''But I am happy with my situation down here. I love it.''

It was a good move for Barrett before he'd ever played a down for the Bucs.

His one-year, $5 million deal last season represented some $53,000 more than he'd earned in Denver, where he spent his rookie year on the practice squad after going undrafted out of Colorado State before a four-year run backing up the likes of Miller, Chubb, DeMarcus Ware and Shane Ray.

He parlayed that into the $15.88 million franchise tag he's playing on this season after a monster year in which he collected an NFL-best 19 1/2 sacks, forced six fumbles and earned his first Pro Bowl nod.

''I didn't even want to stay in Denver no more after my last two years there. I felt there was zero percent chance I'd start,'' Barrett said. ''They weren't even giving me the opportunity to compete to start. I did as much as I could there. I learned as much as I could there. There was no more on-the-rise there.''

If anyone's lamenting Barrett's departure it's the Broncos.

Chubb suffered a season-ending knee injury last September and when he returned to the lineup this month, Miller suffered a season-ending ankle injury.

Had he stayed, Barrett would be in his second season as a starter in Denver.

''No, I most definitely don't think about that,'' Barrett said. ''That's the only reason why they had me was like if one of them did get hurt, they knew they had a secure, comfortable backup who could come in, make some plays and be a somewhat starting-caliber player.

''But that's not the role that I wanted'' anymore, Barrett said. ''It worked initially, but as I got older, I did want to see if I could be a full-time starter in the league and that just wasn't an option there or a role I could possibly have.''

Still, he's thankful for his time in Denver.

''All my time there was a blessing,'' Barrett said. ''I wouldn't be the player I am now without'' it.

Other subplots Sunday when Tom Brady goes for just his fifth win in a dozen trips to Denver and the Buccaneers seek their first win over the Broncos since 1999:

STILL THE BEST

Brady has thrown interceptions in his past four starts, three of them pick-6s. But Broncos coach Vic Fangio sees no signs the 43-year-old QB is showing his age.

''He doesn't look any different to me,'' Fangio said. ''He's still got really good arm strength and strong football intelligence in recognizing things. I don't see a major difference other than the new uniform that he's wearing.''

Broncos cornerback Bryce Callahan shared similar sentiments about TB12.

''Tom Brady being one of the G.O.A.T.s, you never want to sleep on a guy like that even if he isn't looking the same as he has in the past,'' Callahan said. ''We're still going to approach the game like he's The Man. We don't want to get caught slipping.''

BRONCOS BACKUP

With Drew Lock (shoulder) sidelined for the second straight season, Jeff Driskel gets his first start for Denver and is seeking his second career win, which is 248 fewer than Brady.

''As long as I can remember, I've watched him play,'' said Driskel, who is 16 years younger than Brady. ''He's been playing for 20 years or whatever it's been. He's been a constant in this league. He's been one of the best, if not the best for a majority of those years.''

WHERE'S GRONK?

There's no denying Rob Gronkowski is off to a slow start in Tampa Bay with just two catches for 11 yards. He was held without a catch last week for just the fifth time in his 117-game career.

''He doesn't look any less daunting,'' Fangio insisted. ''In fact, he looks like he's in pretty good shape. He's running better than he was late in the final season of his career with New England. I think he's healthy and ready to go. ... He hasn't gotten his yet, but I'm sure by the end of the season, he's going to have some good numbers.''

Maybe even by game's end Sunday. In six career games against the Broncos, Gronkowski has 34 receptions for 445 yards and three TDs.

FANTASTIC FOURNETTE

Leonard Fournette, who signed with the Bucs this month, rumbled for 225 yards on 29 carries in the Jaguars' 26-24 win at Denver a year ago.

After that game, Fangio shuffled his defense, moving Mike Purcell to nose tackle and switching Shelby Harris to end while inserting linebacker Alexander Johnson into the lineup.

''Hopefully, we'll have a better day against him than we did last year,'' Fangio said.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) The Philadelphia Eagles are dealing with adversity far earlier than usual. The Cincinnati Bengals are right where they've been for a while.

One of the teams should earn their first win Sunday - unless they tie - when the Bengals visit the Eagles.

An 0-2 start for the first time in five years with a difficult schedule upcoming has Philadelphia in a desperate spot in September. They've been in dire positions the past two Decembers and ended up in the playoffs.

''I think adversity hits in many different ways,'' Eagles coach Doug Pederson said. ''It's just a matter of how all the guys respond, how the coaches respond. And I think from a coaching standpoint, we've got to react positively to everything and get the guys going.''

The Bengals are looking to avoid their third 0-3 start in four years. They haven't had a winning season since 2015.

''Everybody's itching for the first win, and it's time to get that win,'' rookie quarterback Joe Burrow said. ''Everybody feels it in the building. There's some urgency.''

RUN OVER

The Bengals finished last against the run in 2019, allowing 149 yards per game. They overhauled the defense with an eye on stopping the run, but have been even worse in the first two games. The Chargers ran for 155 yards in an opening 16-13 win, and the Browns piled up 215 on the ground, putting it away with a fourth-quarter touchdown drive that consisted of all runs. They've been missing tackle Geno Atkins, sidelined both games with a shoulder injury, but it's much more than just the line. There have been missed tackles all around that turned short gains into long runs.

''We've struggled to stop the run, so you don't get that many attempts to get after the quarterback,'' end Carl Lawson said. ''Missed tackling is a big thing.''

CRITICIZING CARSON

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has struggled, tossing multiple picks in consecutive games for the first time in his career. Play-calling, inexperienced receivers and blocking in Week 1 have contributed to his inconsistency. But Pederson was critical of his franchise quarterback and fickle fans have piled on in Philadelphia.

''I'm not going to change anything drastically, by any means, it's just being smart and we'll be just fine,'' Wentz said. ''I'm confident in myself that I'll be just fine, and we'll take care of business.''

UP FRONT

Both teams have been plagued by injuries on the offensive line. For Cincinnati, Jonah Williams started at left tackle after missing his rookie season with a shoulder injury and has struggled at times. Right guard Xavier Su'a-Filo went on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury in the opener. The lack of cohesion has left Burrow under steady pressure and left little room for Joe Mixon to run. Against the Browns, he was limited to 46 yards on 16 carries.

''We want to be more efficient in the run,'' center Trey Hopkins said. ''The way our games have gone, we've not always been in position to run the ball in some instances. In some instances we weren't very efficient at all. We weren't good enough. We weren't playing up to our standards.''

The Eagles lost left tackle Andre Dillard for the season in training camp. They lost three-time Pro Bowl right guard Brandon Brooks in June. Three-time Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson missed Week 1. Left guard Isaac Seumalo will miss a few weeks with a knee injury.

HITTING THE ROAD

This is the Bengals' first game outside Ohio. They lost at home to the Chargers with no fans in Week 1 and lost at Cleveland - 250 miles north - in front of 6,000 fans last Thursday.

''It's certainly not the same as going on the road and having trouble with your communications,'' Bengals coach Zac Taylor said. ''I think that's the biggest thing of going on the road, having to work with silent cadence and all the communication stuff that comes with it. Obviously that's not really an issue when you're playing in an empty stadium or with 6,000 people.''

GOING DEEP

Burrow hasn't connected on many longer passes - he was 0-for-5 on deep throws in Week 1 - and that's a point of emphasis for the Bengals. Both the Chargers and Browns played deep coverage to try to make Burrow throw a lot of short stuff, which he did very well.

Wentz hit Jalen Reagor on a 55-yard play in Week 1, but didn't throw long last week. Reagor is out several weeks with a thumb injury.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) Sean McVay knows good offenses when he sees them.

Quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills - a team previously known for having a defense-first reputation - have suddenly captured the Los Angeles Rams coach's attention as the teams prepare to play at Orchard Park, New York, on Sunday.

''A lot of mixture in personnel. A lot of different looks they can present,'' McVay said. ''And Josh's ability to be able to beat you with his arms and legs and create off-schedule is a real winning edge. Man, I've been impressed with him the first couple of weeks.''

It's early still, but the Bills (2-0) don't resemble the once-plodding, inconsistent offensive team which ranked in the bottom half of the NFL in yards gained for all but two of the past 17 seasons, including 24th last year.

Sparked by Allen's 729 yards passing, the Bills rank first in yards passing, third in yards gained and are tied for sixth in scoring 58 points.

Buffalo's offensive renaissance was apparent in a 31-28 come-from-behind win at Miami last week, when Allen had 417 yards passing and four touchdowns in becoming the team's fifth player to top 400 yards.

In making up for an injury-depleted defense missing two starting linebackers, the Bills snapped a 38-game skid going back to 2011 when allowing 28 or more points.

''He's a lot more comfortable back there, he's locked in,'' running back Devin Singletary said of Allen. ''He's that general we're looking for.''

The Rams, off to their third straight 2-0 start, are no pushovers on offense, either.

They've finished a season ranked no worse than 10th in yards gained since McVay took over in 2017, and have topped 400 yards in each of their first two outings.

ALLEN VS RAMSEY

Allen dismissed questions about a feud he's had with Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who was with Jacksonville in 2018 when he called the quarterback ''trash'' in a magazine article. Ramsey questioned Allen's abilities coming out of Wyoming.

A year later, Allen signed a picture for a fan by writing, ''Hey Ramsey ... Am I still trash?'' to which Ramsey posted ''Yes'' on his Twitter account.

''That was so long ago in my opinion, and it's really a non-factor,'' Allen said Wednesday.

McVay wasn't aware of the taunt, but hoped Ramsey has changed his outlook.

''I can't speak for him, but I would say that one of the things that I really trust about Jalen is that he's got a great feel for the game,'' McVay said. ''And I don't think there's any denying what Josh has put on tape.''

HIGH ON HIGBEE

Tyler Higbee's hot hand has McVay questioning why he didn't get the tight end more involved earlier last year.

Higbee has combined for 51 catches for 616 yards and five touchdowns - half the fifth-year player's career total - in his past seven games, going back to last season. He had a career-best three TDs in a 37-19 win at Philadelphia last weekend.

''I should've done it a lot sooner,'' McVay said. ''You've just seen him continue to grow.''

WRESTLING WITH DONALD

Bills coach Sean McDermott has a theory as to why Rams star defensive tackle Aaron Donald has been so disruptive in his six-plus NFL seasons.

''I think it's really one line: he was a wrestler,'' McDermott said, noting how Donald uses leverage to make up for his relatively small 6-foot-1, 280-pound frame.

McDermott, who might not break 200 pounds, was a championship wrestler in high school, and joked he was relieved he wasn't in someone like Donald's weight class.

ROB RETURNS

Rams receiver Robert Woods has spent his entire life in Southern California except for his four-year stint with the Bills, who drafted him in 2013. He was a steady, productive receiver for Buffalo, and grew to love the fans' passion while learning to thrive in cold weather.

Woods also feels he has grown into an even better player back home than Buffalo ever saw. He put up more than 1,100 yards in each of the past two seasons.

''I grew to love Buffalo,'' Woods said. ''Being from LA, going to USC, I never really got a chance to experience another city, especially another weather climate like that. So going to Buffalo, being in the snow, seeing the football culture there, I loved it. Real, true fans. A fun place to play. If you're not wearing Bills gear in the city, they're looking at you funny.''

BACK EAST

Instead of staying on the East Coast, the Rams returned to Southern California after beating the Eagles 37-19 in Philadelphia. McVay initially had planned to stay back East between games, but coronavirus protocols ultimately made it impractical to stay. The extensive travel could conceivably take its toll on the Rams, particularly with another kickoff at 10 a.m. California time, but McVay doesn't believe it will be a hindrance.

He even felt the decision to travel Saturday instead of Friday was helpful.

''It's only a challenge if we allow it to be,'' McVay said.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has an intriguing personality, mixing introverted tendencies with supreme confidence that has helped Arizona push to a 2-0 start for the first time in five years.

Teammates love that the soft-spoken Murray works hard and is humble. They also love his unique swagger.

''It's not my first time dealing with success in my lifetime,'' Murray said. ''This is part of the game. We work hard in the offseason, we work hard to practice to win. We expect to win.''

Now the impressive Cardinals host the struggling Lions on Sunday at State Farm Stadium. Detroit has lost its first two games and given up the most yards rushing in the NFL.

That doesn't bode well for stopping Murray, who is the first quarterback in NFL history to run for at least 150 yards and three touchdowns in the season's first two games. He ran for scores of 14 yards and 21 yards in a 30-15 win over Washington last week, darting and dancing around defenders on the way to the end zone.

''He's like a punt returner back there,'' Lions defensive end Trey Flowers said. ''Any type of space he has, he takes advantage of it. He makes the most athletic guys miss.''

Arizona's success isn't just because of Murray and new receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who has 22 catches through two games. The rebuilt defense is giving up just 17.5 points per game, which ranks second in the NFL.

Detroit gave up 42 points in a loss to the Green Bay Packers last week. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is once again putting up big numbers, but it's not been enough to overcome the mediocre defense.

Embattled coach Matt Patricia is 9-24-1 in two-plus seasons as a first-time NFL head coach. The Lions have lost 11 times after leading in the fourth quarter under Patricia. That doesn't even count last year's 27-27 tie against the Cardinals, which came after Detroit blew an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Losing three in a row to start the season would make a return to the playoffs unlikely. But that's not even a concern at the moment.

''We're not focused on the playoffs,'' Lions receiver Danny Amendola said. ''We're focused on the Cardinals.''

KENNARD SWITCHES SIDES

Arizona gave up the most total yards in the NFL last season, so it rebuilt that side of the ball by adding a handful of free agents in the offseason, including linebackers Devon Kennard and De'Vondre Campbell and defensive lineman Jordan Phillips. The Cardinals also drafted linebacker Isaiah Simmons with the No. 8 overall pick.

Kennard played the past two seasons with the Lions, starting 15 games in both 2018 and 2019. He had one of his best games with Detroit against Arizona in 2019 with three sacks of Murray, who was playing his first NFL game.

Now Kennard will be going after Stafford. The linebacker got his first sack with the Cardinals in last week's win over Washington.

DIRECT DIALOGUE

Arizona's second-year coach Kliff Kingsbury is like most in the NFL when he says it's strange playing in front of empty stadiums. It's not an ideal situation, but it does make for better communication.

If Kingsbury wants to convey a message to someone on the field in 2020, all he has to do is raise his voice.

''I can literally yell at the receivers or running back or quarterback and get his attention,'' Kingsbury said. ''He can look over, and we can have some communication or dialogue from the sideline, which hasn't been possible in the past.''

LARRY FROM STATE FARM

Arizona's veteran receiver Larry Fitzgerald needs just two catches in Sunday's game to set the NFL record for most career receptions at one stadium. He has 645 at State Farm Stadium. Hall of Famer Jerry Rice had 646 during his career at Candlestick Park.

SAVVY STAFFORD

Matthew Stafford, drafted No. 1 overall by Detroit in 2009, seems to keep his emotions in check no matter how long the team's losing streak is or when the team has had success during his career.

''It doesn't mean that inside I'm not pissed at times or pumped at times,'' said Stafford, whose career record is 69-81-1 in the regular season and 0-2 in the playoffs. ''All of that is in there, but I have to make sure I move on to the next play. It does me no good to get lost in my emotions.''

FOR KICKS

Detroit is off to such a tough start that its punter has been one of its best players so far. Jack Fox, an undrafted rookie last year, has helped the Lions rank second in the NFL with a net average of 51.3 yards on punts over the first two games of his NFL career.

''I'd love for him to have a really calm day and only hold for extra points and field goals,'' Stafford said.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Indianapolis Colts used the offseason to beef up their defense.

They traded for Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. They moved defensive tackle Denico Autry to defensive end. They signed Pro Bowl cornerback Xavier Rhodes.

After two games, a franchise known for winning shootouts suddenly has the league's top-ranked defense. Hey, it's a promising start.

''Nobody cares if you're the top defense Week 1, Week 2, Week 3. Nobody gives a care,'' Pro Bowl linebacker Darius Leonard said. ''But when you get to Week 15, Week 16, that's when everybody's talking about who has the No. 1 defense. So we've got to go out and maintain that (ranking).''

Facing the league's lowest-ranked offense Sunday could help Indy (1-1) stay on top a little longer.

Coming off a game in which the Colts picked off three passes, recorded three sacks and held Minnesota to 175 total yards, the fewest in six years, they will try to build momentum against the New York Jets (0-2) with up to 7,500 fans in attendance.

What's gone wrong for the Jets?

They have the fewest yards per game (265.5) in the league, their only first-half points have come on two field goals and they're 27th in third-down conversions (36%).

And this week, they could be without receivers Breshad Perriman (ankle) and Jamison Crowder (hamstring), too.

But they're not giving in.

''We have to stay together,'' said Frank Gore, who spent three seasons in Indy and is the No. 3 rusher in NFL history. ''When we get opportunities to make a play, we need to make a play. I feel like I could have played better and done things to help this team early on. Everybody has to look at each other and know that. Each man has to do better for this team.''

Meanwhile, they're facing a foe that prefers to grind it out and play keep away on offense, and allowing its defense to do what it does best.

''That's the No. 1 goal each week, to stop the run and make the quarterback beat us with his arm,'' Leonard said. ''And let our defense be great.''

INDIANAPOLIS JETS

Gore isn't the only Jets player returning to Indy this weekend.

He's one of eight players on the active roster who suited up for the Colts. The others are offensive lineman Josh Andrews, defensive end Henry Anderson, linebacker Tarell Basham, safety Matthias Farley and cornerbacks Quincy Wilson, Nate Hairston and Pierre Desir.

Cornerback Arthur Maulet and long snapper Thomas Hennessy also spent time with Indy, and Jets assistant general manager Rex Hogan was the Colts' vice president of player personnel in 2017-18.

Colts coach Frank Reich said he'll make some minor adjustments.

Just don't expect to hear much about grudges.

''For me, it's about going and trying to get on track,'' Desir said. ''I want to do everything I can to help the team. We're working every day and as a defense, fixing the things that need to be fixed.''

THE TRADE

The pre-draft deal between Indianapolis and the Jets in 2018 had a major impact on both teams.

New York used the No. 3 overall selection on quarterback Sam Darnold.

By sliding back three spots and acquiring two extra second-round picks from the Jets in 2018 and another in 2019, general manager Chris Ballard found some key cogs.

Indy used the Jets' picks on two-time All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson and right tackle Braden Smith in 2018, then selected starting cornerback Rock Ya-Sin in 2019. They dealt the Jets' other second-rounder in 2018 to Philadelphia, swapping spots while acquiring an extra fifth-rounder. Ballard used those picks on defensive end Kemoko Turay and running back Jordan Wilkins.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT

Jets coach Adam Gase is already facing outside criticism for the team's lackluster game-day performances and now some defensive players are concerned about practices, too.

After last week's loss, safety Bradley McDougald said players - particularly the defense - need to show more intensity in practice, an assertion supported by linebacker Avery Williamson. McDougald reiterated his point this week, but clarified that he wasn't criticizing the coaches. Instead, he wants teammates to improve their focus.

''I think if we go down the line and ask that question to anybody on this team, I think everybody would agree,'' McDougald said. ''We've had slow practices, we've had down practices, and that is players moving slow, or players not making the plays that we're expected to be able to make.''

MILE MARKER

Colts quarterback Philip Rivers could celebrate a handful of major milestones this weekend.

The eight-time Pro Bowler needs five completions to pass Hall of Famer Dan Marino (4,967) for No. 5 on the NFL's career list, one touchdown pass and 152 yards passing to become the sixth player in league history with 400 TDs and 60,000 yards. He also needs one more win to break a tie with Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton (124) for No. 8 all-time.

New on SI: Football Team-Browns Preview

CLEVELAND (AP) The last time Baker Mayfield faced a talented, quarterback-seeking defensive line anchored by the No. 2 overall draft pick, things didn't go well.

The San Francisco 49ers menaced and mauled Mayfield last season.

On Sunday the Browns' QB faces Washington's ferocious front.

''Game wreckers,'' Mayfield said while describing a unit led by rookie Chase Young that leads the NFL with 11 sacks after two weeks.

Protecting Mayfield will be one of the primary objectives for the Browns (1-1), who are looking to keep their momentum rolling after rebounding from a brutal opener by beating the Cincinnati Bengals 35-30 last Thursday night.

Cleveland has used the extra days off to get healthier and prepare for Washington's talented and deep D-line, which is stacked with first-round picks and can create pressure from inside and the edge.

In Week 5 last year, the 49ers had Mayfield scrambling for his safety on almost every snap in a 31-3 loss. He was sacked four times, harassed numerous others, completed just 8 of 22 passes for 100 yards and threw two interceptions.

It may have been the low point in a season of lows for Mayfield and the Browns. It was also a good lesson for the third-year QB as the Niners showed some new defensive looks.

This time, he feels more prepared for what might be coming.

''Just what they are trying to do, let those guys go make plays,'' said Mayfield, who wasn't sacked by Cincinnati. ''San Fran had where they put the five bigs in the game and said one on one, somebody is going to win. We are not seeing that with Washington. That does not mean they can't show up and do that because they have the personnel. It is just different schematically, but yes, talent-wise, very similar.''

The Niners had Joey Bosa, fresh out of Ohio State. The Redskins have Young, another Buckeye who is already proving to be worth his high selection. His 2 1/2 sacks are tied for the league lead.

''Just a freak of nature,'' said Browns rookie left tackle Jedrick Wills, who may be matched up at times against Young. ''You do not see a lot of guys like him around the league. He just has a lot of size and ability and a lot of speed and power, which is a good combination of everything you need.''

RUN, RUN, RUN

The Browns churned out 215 yards rushing against the Bengals and fullback Andy Janovich said it ''could have had 300 or 400 - if we wanted.''

Get to used to it.

Cleveland's going to lean on Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, two backs capable of ripping off a touchdown run from anywhere on the field.

''It gives a boost to the offense - especially the offensive line - when you've got a guy that all you need to do is give him a crack,'' said Washington coach Ron Rivera. ''They've got two guys that can do that.''

RIGHT IS ALL RIGHT

The Browns will be at full strength to handle Washington's rush as right tackle Jack Conklin returns from an ankle injury suffered in Week 1.

Conklin, who signed a three-year, $42 million deal as a free agent with Cleveland in March, said the Browns have their hands full with Washington's line.

''Obviously they're a great front and they're playing really well,'' he said. ''They've got some young guys up there that are doing a great job and really coming together and working as a group. It'll be a great challenge for us this week to keep everybody clean.''

HASKINS' PROGRESS

Because Dwayne Haskins only started seven games as a rookie, the 2019 first-round pick is still making some mistakes like a first-year pro quarterback.

Rivera in particular wondered aloud if Haskins being so hyped up is contributing to jitters early in games, because the Ohio State product settles in nicely.

Haskins lost a fumble in Washington's Week 2 loss at Arizona and is learning on the fly.

''The biggest thing is just trusting the play, playing the play out and not letting the last play affect the new play and just focusing on what my reads are and not trying to bypass a 1 or 2-yard completion that could be a first down and try to throw a 15, 14-yard curl route,'' Haskins said. ''Just trying to make sure the play and completion game moves us down the field.''

HEALTHY FEELING

The Browns got three expected defensive starters back this week as linebacker Mack Wilson (knee) and cornerbacks Greedy Williams (shoulder) and Kevin Johnson (lacerated liver) returned from injuries suffered in training camp.

It's not known how much they'll play Sunday to help a defense that has given up 69 points in two games.

NO SCHERFF

Washington got what Rivera called good news on standout right guard Brandon Scherff, who will only miss a few weeks and not the entire season with a right knee injury. Scherff got rolled up on last week against the Cardinals.

Veteran free agent pickup Wes Schweitzer could start in Scherff's place. He replaced Scherff against Arizona, but Rivera was noncommittal this week.

''I thought Wes did a nice job,'' he said. ''We've got a good slew of offensive linemen. We're going to be working a lot of guys.''

PITTSBURGH (AP) The pieces to compete for a Super Bowl are all there. The Pittsburgh Steelers are sure of it, just as they have been for most of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's career.

It's the main reason the 38-year-old came back from right elbow surgery this season rather than retire. And through two weeks, the Steelers (2-0) have the look of a contender behind a relentless defense and an offense guided by a star who hardly looks rusty despite an extended layoff.

Yet rather than exhale about a return to normal following a chaotic 2019, Roethlisberger and his teammates are sweating the details ahead of a visit on Sunday by winless Houston (0-2).

Coach Mike Tomlin brought in officials to practice this week to help a group flagged 10 times in a win over Denver. The defense is looking to close the brief holes the Broncos opened in the running game. Roethlisberger spent his ''off'' day fine-tuning his footwork with quarterbacks coach Matt Canada, well aware his margin for error isn't as big as it used to be.

''I've gotten away with it in the past being able to not necessarily be perfect from the ground up and just letting my arm kind of make up for a lot of things, a lot of imperfections if you talk to quarterback people,'' said Roethlisberger, who will appear in his franchise-record 221st career game.

''If I'm having these issues and we are still winning football games, that's a plus.''

It's a luxury the Texans haven't been afforded during a brutal early season gauntlet that began with losses to Kansas City and Baltimore. Things don't figure to get any easier on the road at a place where the franchise has won just once.

Still, Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson isn't exactly ready to panic with his team potentially facing its second 0-3 start in three years.

''That's all we can do is just put our head down and grind,'' Watson said. ''Just work and try to do what we do and see what the outcome comes like. Of course, we don't want to be 0-3, but that's not the main thing that's on our minds right now.''

The Texans emerged from 0-3 to win the AFC South in 2018. Asking a group still searching for an identity following an offseason overhaul that included sending All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona might be asking for too much.

WATT'S UP

The Watts will hold a family reunion at Heinz Field when Houston defensive end J.J. Watt shares the field with little brothers Derek and T.J., both of whom play for the Steelers. It's the first time the brothers - who co-hosted the game show ''Ultimate Tag'' during the offseason as well as starring with their mom Connie and dad John in a series of ''Subway'' commercials - will participate in the same game, well at least one not played in the backyard back home in their native Wisconsin.

''To have all of us on the field at the same time in the same game, it really doesn't get any better than that,'' J.J. Watt said.

It's the second time since 1927 three brothers have appeared in the same NFL game, though it's also the second time in 10 months. Pittsburgh safety Terrell Edmunds and running back Trey Edmunds played youngest brother Tremaine Edmunds last December when the Steelers faced Buffalo.

WHAT'S UP WITH WILL

There are questions about what's going on with Houston's top receiver Will Fuller after he didn't have a reception last week against Baltimore after finishing with eight receptions for 112 yards in the opener. Fuller participated in 63 percent of Houston's offense plays against the Ravens but was not targeted once and looked like he was struggling to run routes at times. Coach Bill O'Brien deflected questions about his health this week and he was not listed on the injury report. Fuller has been slowed by injuries throughout his career, but the Texans were counting on him to have a big season this year after DeAndre Hopkins was traded to Arizona in March.

DECASTRO RETURNS

Pittsburgh's offensive line should get a significant boost with the return of perennial Pro Bowl right guard David DeCastro. The eight-year veteran missed the first two games with a right knee injury, though rookie Kevin Dotson filled in capably last week in his first NFL start. Still, Dotson isn't DeCastro.

''Having him back is huge for us because Dave is a pro,'' Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster said. ''He's a vet. This is what he does, and he's been doing it for a very long time.''

WATSON'S WORK

Watson is the first player to reach 10,000 yards passing (10,244) and 1,000 yards rushing (1,277) through their first 40 games in NFL history. Watson has thrown for 528 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions this season and is looking to do more to help the offense improve and help the team get in the win column.

''We want to be balanced,'' Watson said. ''We want to run. We want to pass. We want to do all the things that we need to do to get on the same page and make sure we're on the same rhythm. We're building that week to week and building that chemistry.''

ATLANTA (AP) Let's see if the Atlanta Falcons can put another nightmarish loss behind them.

The team that infamously squandered a 28-3 advantage in the 2017 Super Bowl suffered an improbable defeat in Week 2 of this NFL season, blowing a 20-point lead to the Dallas Cowboys and giving up an onside kick that set up a game-winning field goal on the final play.

The 40-39 stunner turned up the heat on coach Dan Quinn, especially when owner Arthur Blank said it looked as though the Falcons (0-2) didn't know the onside kick rules.

Quinn urged his team to turn its attention to Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears (2-0), but he conceded that it wouldn't be easy to get over such a disappointing outcome.

''You have to recognize the emotion,'' Quinn said. ''Yeah, you're (ticked). We have to put it into another space, but it's important to acknowledge why you're so (ticked). That's the life of a competitor. It's hard, but you have to get past mad, you have to get past frustrated if you're going to have the season you want.''

The Bears have a shot at their first 3-0 start since 2013, though they've hardly dazzled in their first two games.

In Week 1, Chicago rallied from 17 points down to beat the Detroit Lions 27-23. Last weekend, the Bears nearly blew a 17-point lead of their own, hanging on for a 17-13 win over the New York Giants.

''You're always happy about the win, but not too happy because we haven't played a full game together,'' Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky said. ''We know what we're capable of if we do play four quarters, so that's gotta be the goal.''

The Falcons would like to second that sentiment.

They appeared to be cruising at Dallas, taking advantage of three early turnovers on the way to a 29-10 halftime lead.

Even after the Cowboys rallied, the Falcons were up 39-24 with 5 minutes to go. But the defense couldn't hold, giving up a pair of touchdowns that gave Dallas hope. Even then, the Cowboys had to pull off an onside kick - a real longshot given rule changes that were designed to improve player safety.

The Falcons backed away from the spinning ball, simply watching until it had carried 10 yards. That allowed the Cowboys to make the recovery and win the game, turning Atlanta into the sort of national laughingstock that brought back memories of the Super Bowl meltdown.

Quinn insisted that his players understood the rules, but were simply befuddled by the strange kick.

''Arthur and I can disagree on how we talk about it, but what we 100 percent agree on is that it shouldn't have happened,'' the coach said. ''We've got to work to make sure it doesn't happen again.''

Some things to watch for when the Falcons try to bounce back against the Bears:

QB PROGRESS

Coach Matt Nagy insisted he has seen enough improvement from Trubisky to keep him in the lineup.

''There's been a lot of growth with him as well in regards to his decision-making,'' Nagy said. ''Let's keep that next-play mentality going, where if something bad happens on one play, let's make a good play the next. He's been doing that. We haven't had that domino effect.''

Trubisky threw three fourth-quarter touchdowns against Detroit and was sharp in the first half against the Giants. But the other five quarters haven't gone as well for him.

Trubisky's completion rate (59.4 percent) ranks 28th in the league. He's also 25th in yards and 17th in rating, with 2018 Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles lurking in the backup role.

JULIO'S HAMSTRING

Falcons star Julio Jones was clearly bothered by a hamstring injury, which seemed to get worse against the Cowboys. The receiver will be closely monitored throughout the week, in hopes of getting him back on the field Sunday.

''He's a guy who really understands his body,'' Quinn said. ''He'll work through it.''

PLENTY OF TARGETS

If Jones is limited or can't go, the Falcons at least have plenty of other potential targets.

The Falcons are the only team that has four receivers with at least 100 yards through two games. Calvin Ridley leads the league with four touchdown receptions and is tied for most receiving yards at 239. Jones has 181, Russell Gage 160 and tight end Hayden Hurst 110.

TAKEDOWN

The Bears have five sacks and could be poised to significantly improve those numbers.

A big reason is the presence of outside linebacker Robert Quinn. Signed to a $70 million contract in the offseason, he had a strip sack in his Bears debut last week.

Quinn missed the opener because of an ankle injury. His presence on the outside draws attention away from Khalil Mack.

RED ZONE WOES

Atlanta ranks last in the league in red-zone defense, surrendering touchdowns on nine of 10 drives inside the 20. They might have a little easier time of it against the Bears, who have scored on three of six trips into the red zone.

''We're putting a real focus on the red zone,'' Falcons defensive coordinator Raheem Morris said. ''We're giving up too may red-zone opportunities and too many points. We kind of fell apart this past week.''
